Where can I find information on support groups for individuals affected by HIV/AIDS?

 

For information on support groups in Oklahoma, you can begin with CHAIN's HIV Treatment and Care Resource Directory.

  1. From the CHAIN Home Page, select the Directory.

  2.  
  3. Scroll down the page to the "Search for a Serivce" section and select "Support Group/Client Advocacy"from the drop-down menu.

  5. There is also an option to select select a particular area by selecting a specific Area Code from the drop-down menu in the accompanying "Area" search box.

  7. Click on "Search".

  8.  
  9. A list of agencies/organizations providing support group information is returned.

 

Next you can return to the CHAIN Home Page and click on the Links option.

  1. Scroll down the page and under MEDLINEplus, click on "AIDS--Living with AIDS".

  3. From the menu on the left side of the page, select "Coping".

  4.  
  5. Click on "Resources and Services Database(Center for Disease Control and Prevention".

  6.  
  7. Click on the "Search Resources and Services Database" option.

  8.  
  9. Enter support groups in the "Search all Text" box and OK in the "State" box, then click Search.

  11. A list of organizations in Oklahoma that provide support group information is returned.

 

Another good site to visit is HIV InSite which can provide support group information from national and international organizations. HIV InSite can be accessed via the CHAIN Links page.

  1. At HIV InSite enter support groups in the Search box at the top of the page.

  3. Several listings on a number of pages are returned, such as "Discussion and Usenet Groups", "Religious/Spiritual Groups", and "Social Contact for People Living with HIV/AIDS", that provide support group information.
