Question:

I've just been told I'm HIV+. I'm not sure what questions I should be asking or what information I need to have. Where can I go to get started?

For information on a number of different aspects of HIV infection and AIDS you can begin on the CHAIN Links.

  1. Scroll down the page to the MEDLINEplus section and click on the AIDS link.

  2.
  3. From the "Contents of this page" area on the left of the page you can select sections such as General/Overviews, Disease Management, Nutrition, Treatment, Clinical Trials, Alternative Therapy, etc.

  4.
  5. Within these sections are links that will take you to information provided by a number of authoritative sources.

  6.
  7. If you scroll further down the main page on the left hand side, a number of MEDLINEplus related pages are offered including AIDS-Living with AIDS.

Next you can return to the CHAIN Links page and click on AEGIS--AIDS Education Global Information System.

  1. On the AEGIS home page in the upper right hand corner click on the section Newly Infected: Begin Here HIV: The Basics.

  2.
  3. Select from options including Day One, What AIDS is, The Science of HIV, Frequently Asked Questions, etc.

Another good site to visit is HIV InSite which can also be accessed from the CHAIN Links page.

  1. At HIV InSite click on Basics at the top of the page.

  2.
  3. Scroll down the page to the "I just tested positive, what now?" link and click.

  4.
  5. This connects you to information provided from a personal perspective and offers other resources that are a "click" away.
