Question:


How can I locate information on clinical trials related to HIV/AIDS?

 

For information on clinical trials, you can begin at the CHAIN Links page.

  1. Click on AIDS Education Training Centers (AETC) National Resource Center-Links.

  2.  
  3. Select the "AIDS/HIV- Clinical Trials/Research" option.

  4.  
  5. Click on the "Comm. Research Initiative on AIDS" (CRIA) link.

  6.  
  7. From the menu on the left side of the page, select "Clinical Research"

  8.  
  9. Click on the "Clinical Trials Explained" tab for a good explanation of purpose and types of clinical trials, as well as points to consider when participating in these clinical trials.

  11. The "Currently Enrolling" tab will lead to information on trials that CRIA is sponsoring and "Priority Notification Program" provides the opportunity to register for notices of current and future trials.

 

After reviewing this introductory information, go to the CHAIN Library page for addtional information on clinical trials.

  1. Click on the "Databases" option at the top of the page.

  3. Select "AIDSTRIALS" to get to the AIDS Clinical Trials Information Service (ACTIS) database.

  5. Information on clinical trials is provided for adults, adolescents, and children, and further grouped by new (within the last 30 days), currently recruiting, and closed trials.

  7. This site also offers a Simple or Detailed Search option that allows you to search for only clinical trials that meet specific criteria such as age group, location, status (eg. open, government or pharmaceutical sponsored, phase).

 

Additionally, you can return to the CHAIN Links page and select MEDLINEplus: AIDS option.

  1. From the menu on the left side of the page, click on "Clinical Trials".

  3. Select either "ClinicalTrials.gov: Immunodeficiency Syndrome" or "ClinicalTrials.gov: HIV Infections" to get to information provided by the National Institutes of Health on trials they sponsor and also those sponsored by other Federal agencies and the pharmaceutical industry.

  5. Information on currently recruiting and yet to be recruiting clinical trials is provided. By clicking on the "Show all Trials" option at the top of the page, you can also view information on closed trials.

  7. Clicking on the title of the trials listed provides access to information on the purpose, eligibility requirements, location, and contacts for the trial.

  9. Returning to MEDLINEplus: AIDS-Clinical Trials provides additional links to "AIDS Clinical Trials Information Servic" (previously mentioned) and also the "Canadian HIV Trials Network".
